In Texas, an Active National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) is a public school educator who holds a current certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Under the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) program, these teachers automatically receive a Recognized designation, which can lead to additional compensation for both the teacher and their employing district.

Active Teacher Incentive Allotment Designation

An Active Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) Designation in Texas refers to a current recognition granted to public school teachers who meet specific criteria under the TIA program. This designation acknowledges high-performing educators and is associated with additional compensation. This is reported through TSDS ClassRoster Winter AND on the ECOS-Staff Certification file.

LEA Submitted Designation Pending

When a district with an approved local designation system submits a teacher for a new or higher TIA designation, the teacher is marked with the code “03 – LEA Submitted Designation Pending” in the Texas Student Data System (TSDS) during the Class Roster Winter Submission. This code indicates that the teacher is under consideration for a designation, and the final decision is pending TEA’s review and validation process.
