CTE Coding Summary

Report Location: Student>Student Custom Reports>CTE

Summary: This report lists students who have either a current or prior year CTE course(s) in the summer submission and displays current and prior year CTE data.

Usage: Verify CTE students’ endorsement coding along with CTE courses currently enrolled in and/or previously completed. Can also be used to predict the CTE and Program of Study codes given out by TEA after the first Summer submission.

Special Notes:

  • Please see Auto Calculation of CTE and Program of Study Codes for further information on auto calculating the CTE and Program of Study codes starting with the 2020-2021 school year.
  • If current year PEIMS course completion records have not been loaded, only the prior year CTE course columns will display.
  • Current year and prior year CTE course columns include CTE courses reported in the PEIMS Extended Year submission
  • CTE Course Service IDs displayed include all CTE courses taken at both high school and middle school
  • New starting 2020-2021, calculation of Program of Study and CTE Codes
    • Note: Since this report only includes students with at least one CTE course in either current or prior years, it can only calculate code 4-Not CTE for students in this report. Any student not on this report is automatically considered code 4-Not CTE since they do not have a CTE course at all.
  • ADA Eligibility 0 students will appear on the report if they have prior year CTE courses and a CTE code was calculated for them based on this information.

  • Grade and Campus
    • If PEIMS summer file loaded, pulls last grade and all campuses associated with a 43415 record
    • If no PEIMS summer file loaded, pulls snapshot grade and campus values reported in PEIMS fall

Starting with 2020-2021

Auto calculation of Program of Study and CTE Codes

  • Uses Summer and Extended Year Course Completion records (43415) for all years
  • Additionally will use CTE Transfer Courses if loaded to the file center (see element definition further down)
  • Note: If not loading CTE Transfer Courses, the calculation will not be accurate for students who have taken high school credited CTE courses at another LEA
  • Only considers Course Sequence Codes (E0948) = 0, 2, 5, 9, D0, D2, D5, D9
  • Program of Study
    • Only appears for CTE Codes 6 and/or 7 and can have multiple Program of Study codes
    • Only allows Programs of Study offered by the district based on complex type 10010-E1643 Program of Study
    • Determined by comparing Summer and Extended year course completion Service IDs E0724 (and CTE Transfer courses if loaded) to the TEA CTE Autocalculation Source Data Excel file (POS Service ID Level Credit tab) which includes the Credit and Level elements used below in the CTE Code Logic
    • Includes both state and regional level program of study codes
    • If student has 2 or more Service IDs passing in the same Program of Study, the Program of Study code(s) will display
  • CTE Code
    • Can have both CTE Code 6 and 7
    • Calculated based on the following logic:
      • Credit and Level can be found on the Program of Study file linked above
